Administration

Gwen Looney, Principal

This is my 36th year working in the West Memphis School District. Fifteen of those years were spent teaching in the classroom at Maddux Elementary. Then in 1996, I began my journey as an administrator at Wonder Elementary. There, I served as an assistant principal for 4 years. Next, I worked as a principal at Wedlock Elementary until June 2004.

Having the opportunity to come to Richland has given me a chance to work with the most devoted team of staff members and parents. Richland is recognized as a school dedicated to providing a quality education for all children. The faculty and staff are committed to teaching and making a difference in the lives of our students. I strongly believe an education is the greatest gift we can give a child. Therefore, I am proud to be part of this team as we continue to achieve our quest for high achievement.

Kristi C. Rice, Assistant Principal

I am beginning my 22nd and half year of education with 6.5 of those years being in the West Memphis School District and the last 16 years in the Marion School District. I began my career at Maddux Elementary where I spent 6.5 years teaching first grade.  I, then, transferred to Marion Middle School where I taught seventh grade math and pre-algebra for 4 years and then, became the math coach for another 4 years at MMS. I was hired as the assistant principal at Avondale Elementary where I spent the last 8 years.  I am honored to have accepted the position of assistant principal at Richland Elementary for the 2017-2018 school year! Did I mention I am a former Richland Rocket? I went to school at Richland kindergarten through sixth grade, then onto West Junior High, and a Blue Devil graduate, Class of 1992. So, to say I feel like I am back home is an understatement. So excited about my future in WMSD!

Richland Elementary has deep roots in excellence and being part of the Richland tradition is an educator's dream come true. The highly qualified staff, outstanding student body, and extremely involved parents enable Richland's culture to continue to flourish. I am very proud to now be part of the Richland tradition and know that together we can make a difference in bringing forth well-educated children as we strive to ensure all children become life-long learners.
