Gwen Looney, Principal

This is my 36th year working in the West Memphis School District. Fifteen of those years were spent teaching in the classroom at Maddux Elementary. Then in 1996, I began my journey as an administrator at Wonder Elementary. There, I served as an assistant principal for 4 years. Next, I worked as a principal at Wedlock Elementary until June 2004.

Having the opportunity to come to Richland has given me a chance to work with the most devoted team of staff members and parents. Richland is recognized as a school dedicated to providing a quality education for all children. The faculty and staff are committed to teaching and making a difference in the lives of our students. I strongly believe an education is the greatest gift we can give a child. Therefore, I am proud to be part of this team as we continue to achieve our quest for high achievement.

Ruby McFarland, Assistant Principal

I am also in my 36th year of education with 32 of those years being in the West Memphis School District. I began my career in Trumann, AR where I spent one year at Trumann Middle School, then I transferred to Wynne Junior High School where I taught for 3 years. In 1984 I married and moved to West Memphis and was hired at East Junior School where I remained for 5 years. I transferred to Bragg Elementary and taught there for 16 years before coming to Richland Elementary as the Literacy Coach. In 2008, I became the full time assistant principal and it was the best decision I've made in my career.

Richland Elementary has deep roots in excellence and being part of the Richland tradition is an educator's dream come true. The highly qualified staff, outstanding student body, and extremely involved parents enable Richland's culture to continue to flourish. I am very proud to now be part of the Richland tradition and know that together we can make a difference in bringing forth well-educated children as we strive to ensure all children become life-long learners.
